Kurelu is an interactive project, a creative “bet” that woven carpets can claim a place in the modern home and woven accessories to become again a part of our everyday life.
The person behind kurelu is Angeliki Genitsaridou! She grew up literally amongst the looms of the women of her family and she cherished their rhythmic song.
She studied decorative arts at the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, worked as a decorator for several years and then decided to return to her roots …!
Her childhood experiences, her modern way of “ look and feel” and the colourfu cotton rags imported from abroad, are all woven in her looms.
Angeliki Genitsaridou, prepares a thumbnail of the carpet, according to your selection, she takes a picture and sends you the sample image. Upon agreement of the last details, the loom is set up and weaving art begins!
A primordial, yet timeless art that survives from the Neolithic period, an art that combines aesthetics with usability.
It is the art of our grandmothers who wove traditional masterpieces to their handmade wooden looms. Has, however, this ancient art a place in modern times? Our unequivocal answer is: “Yes!”
